Podiatrists are specialist doctors who focus on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of foot disorders, injury, and disease. Doctors of Podiatric Medicine (DPMs) can administer medicine and perform surgeries, and frequently work with other healthcare professionals to ensure best practices. Podiatrists often detect serious health conditions early, such as arthritis, heart or kidney disease, and diabetes.
Pre-podiatry is not a major at SIU. Students will need to select a major in which to earn a degree. Completing the Pre-Podiatry curriculum will fulfill the pre-requisite requirements of most podiatric medical schools.
