The demand for trained pharmacy professionals has dramatically increased in recent years due to the rapid growth of the healthcare industry.
Pre-pharmacy is not a major at SIU. As a pre-pharmacy student, you are indicating your intention to apply to pharmacy schools. Pharmacy is one of the few professional degrees in which students may not be required to complete a bachelor's degree prior to applying to graduate programs. Some schools offer direct entry following high school graduation (called Conditional Entry programs). These programs are generally six years. All pharmacy programs require at least 2 years of foundational coursework, but increasingly students have three to four years of strong science preparation. If you are interested in science, and like making a difference in people’s lives, preparation at SIU for a future career in pharmacy may be for you!
