Pre-Optometry | Pre-Health Professions | SIU

Optometrists are specialists in eye health.  We all know that optometrists conduct eye exams and prescribe corrective lenses, but did you know that optometrists can prescribe medications and perform certain eye surgeries? If you are interested in becoming an optometrist,  SIU will help “see” you through! 

SIU’s faculty and advisors advocate for, mentor, and offer research experience for pre-optometry students. Our pre-optometry curriculum will give you the solid foundation you need for your continued professional development and growth.

Pre-optometry is not a major at SIU.  As a pre-optometry student, you are indicating your intention to apply to optometry schools. Students will need to select a major in which to earn a degree at SIU. Biological Sciences, Physiology, and Biochemistry are all common majors.
